The game rules is pretty much magic the gathering carbon copy with minor tweaks and a different set of cards. You also can't play with friends using the cards that you get from pve, you need to grind for an insane amount of hour to get gold, and then trade that gold for cards in the auction house. My vampire king deck ended up costing me around 150$ in total to be barely competitive. Competitive cards are behind a pay wall similar to mtg in that sense. If you want to play PvP, you need to dump money as you can only play with "PvP" cards. The ai is dumb enough to suicide their cards in the campaign. Hex has been in development for over 6 years now, little has changed since the beginning.
